Detective Stories

There is something strangely comforting about a swaying locomotive carrying you to a new destination, away from a routine schedule and a place you call home. See something interesting and you have maybe half a second or less to capture it, a bizarre coincidence in which you and some person or landscape are meeting. What are the odds? Look away and completely miss it, or maybe you don't point your camera fast enough. The moment is lost. I wonder who these people are and what series of events led them to be in front my of my lens.

One of the students in my Photo 400 class this past year based his project on the railway which I found very interesting and inspiring. You can see his project here: http://scottberwick.com/

Fragments from a train ride, Montreal to New York. Listening to nothing but Radiolab.
35mm.
